University Sports Centre Strength Hall

University procurement brings requirements a commercial club never raises: published load ratings, documented inspection records, verifiable material specifications and a paper trail that survives an audit. This project was specified as much around documentation as around equipment.

What the buyer needed beyond equipment

• Published load ratings for racks, platforms and cable systems, against the university's own structural assessment.
• Batch inspection records for welding and coating, submitted as a document pack.
• Material specifications including tube wall thickness, verified rather than claimed.
• A spare-parts schedule with part numbers, so the facilities team could plan a maintenance budget across a five-year cycle.

Specification

The hall serves both taught sessions and competitive student clubs, so the equipment had to work for a first-year induction group and for a national-level weightlifter in the same session. The final layout used separate zones with fixed circulation between them: a platform and rack area, a plate-loaded strength zone, a selectorised circuit, and a functional area with a cable crossover and open floor.

Delivery and handover

Delivery was phased across two shipments to fit the university's vacation programme, with the second shipment deliberately scheduled after the term-time exam period. We provided torque tables, parts diagrams and a maintenance schedule as part of the handover pack, and the facility team completed installation training remotely.
